Vernon Kay makes the musically impossible become possible as some of today's biggest pop stars get a chance to sing a duet with one of their all time idols. Through the magic of modern technology, stars from yester-year make a comeback from the big gig in the sky and appear to perform live on stage with stars of today. The results are some unique new musical collaborations featuring Eva Cassidy and Katie Melua, Roy Orbison and Westlife, Dusty Springfield and Sugababes, among others.

IFPI confirm Katie Melua as Europe’s highest selling European female artist in 2006
Today the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) confirmed Katie Melua as the highest selling European female artist throughout Europe in 2006. Since its release in September 2005, sales of Katie’s second album ‘Piece by Piece’ have passed the three million mark across the continent achieving triple platinum status.
What makes this achievement even more notable is that the record is released on a small independent label, Dramatico Entertainment. In fact, ‘Piece By Piece’ is the only independent record to have applied for and been awarded IFPI platinum status in Europe in 2006.
Speaking from Paris prior to Katie’s last concert date of 2006 Mike Batt, Chairman of Dramatico Entertainment, said “We are extremely proud to have helped Katie to this high level of achievement particularly in light of the independent structure of our company and the hard work and expertise that has been brought to bear by our fantastic independent distributors throughout Europe. Katie will hear about this tremendous achievement just before her sell-out concert at the Olympia in Paris, an appropriate venue for such an exciting announcement and a wonderful way to round off another superb year.”

Miss Potter Soundtrack
Dramatico are proud to announce the release of the original motion picture soundtrack to 'Miss Potter', on January 8th 2007. Katie Melua performs ‘When You Taught Me How To Dance’, the vocal adaptation of the orchestral theme tune, as featured in her current arena dates' set.
The soundtrack is an orchestral score composed by the award winning Nigel Westlake (Babe) with additional music by Rachel Portman (Oliver Twist, Benny & Joon, Chocolat). The lush, romantic and beautiful score takes the listener on a journey through Beatrix Potter’s life, the creation of her much-loved characters, her personal turmoil and the beauty of the Cumbrian countryside (where the film is predominantly set).
The film opens in the UK nationwide on 5th January 2007.

It's a new World Record!
Katie Melua has set a new World Record by performing the world's deepest underwater concert. Katie and her band played for workers at the Statoil Troll A Gas Rig in the North Sea, an amazing 303 metres below sea level.
The concert required extensive medical testing and underwater survival training including escaping through the window of a submerged helicopter, and was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of gas production by Troll-Gas. It was filmed by Norwegian TV channel NRK.
Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, was also there and confirmed the world record.

Katie Melua To Set Guinness World Record For Deepest Underwater Concert
On 2nd October Katie Melua will set a Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater concert when she performs a concert at the bottom of the North Sea.
The concert will be held at the bottom of one of the four shafts of the Statoil Troll A Platform gas rig. The Troll platform is 472 m high (higher than the Eiffel Tower and the tallest structure ever moved by humans), of which 369 meters lie below sea surface. The Troll field ranks as Europe`s largest offshore gas field in production.
Director of Production at Troll, Geir Amland, “Statoil celebrates our 10 year anniversary in 2006 and we are thrilled that Katie Melua will be performing a concert to celebrate our anniversary. It will be certainly an occasion to remember.”
In addition to the gas rig staff, the audience will include Craig Glenday, Editor-in Chief of Guinness World Records, who will adjudicate and verify the validity of the record - certain criteria will be in place, including that Katie must perform a “traditional concert performance of vocals and instrument to an audience”. This was already the case, as Katie will have her band with her to play the concert, at the invitation of the crew of the platform before the Guinness Book Of Records became interested.
All visitors to the platform, including Katie, the band, crew and Craig Glenday have undergone medical examinations and will all undertake strict and extensive emergency training prior to the helicopter flight to the platform.
The concert, which is being produced by the Norwegian production company Dinamo Story, will be televised on NRK in Norway, with future international distribution to be advised.

Katie Melua has been the biggest selling female artist in Britain since 2004 with both her debut album ‘Call Off The Search’ and her second album ‘Piece By Piece’ topping the charts. In addition to great success in Britain , her adopted country, Katie continues to be one of Britain ’s most successful exports selling more than 6 million albums worldwide, remaining in the top 10 of the European chart for 6 months.
Katie’s 10 week European sell-out tour earlier this year included 18 sold out dates in Britain and a further 28 dates across continental Europe with a total audience exceeding 150,000 people.
Katie has spent the last 3 months on tour in North America and returns to Britain to release her new single ‘It’s Only Pain’ and a deluxe version of ‘Piece By Piece’ which will include a bonus DVD comprising an 80 minute film shot during Katie’s 2006 European tour plus promo films for her singles ‘Nine Million Bicycles’, ‘I Cried For You’ and Spider’s Web’. Katie said of her first show at Wembley "I always used to say that I preferred playing in tiny little clubs and doing very intimate shows, - and although that still stands, it really is a huge thrill to do the bigger gigs as I recently discovered on touring Europe. Headlining for the first time at Wembley in front of 10,000 people is obviously a great buzz for any artist. I am so proud of every member of the band who have gone from strength to strength on the tour this year and we are really looking forward to playing at Wembley Arena."

Katie triumphs in New York
BB King’s Club just off Times Square on 42nd Street New York was bursting at the seams with a sold-out, standing audience last night as Katie and the band played their triumphant set. This was a perfect gig for Katie to play, a large capacity and a pedigree for fielding the finest blues and rock artists. John Mayall (legendary British bluesman and writer of “Crawling Up A Hill”) is playing there next week.
The tour continues to go well. The support slot for Il Divo, which took her from Florida across to LA and up to Vancouver may have seemed a strange choice, but they are massive in the States and they were playing to five to ten thousand people a night. The audience gave Katie a full standing ovation at many of the gigs, particularly LA’’s Greek Theatre, - very unusual for a support act. The Il Divo guys were very hospitable and supportive, and their crew and management were magnificent.
Then, on June 5th Katie’s headline tour began with the Montreal Jazz Festival. Her set crerated the usual magic, and the promoter was so pleased he invited Katie as his special guest to Paul Simon’s show and to meet Paul afterwards, which was a huge buzz for Katie. Thereafter, Toronto and Philadelphia and on to New York City where she had them swinging from the rafters at BB King’s. The tour now continues to Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, Atlanta, San Diego and then the famous Troubadour club in LA, on to San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and Portland.
In New York, Katie and Mike are cutting two new tracks, one of which will be single, to be released in early September to precede the re-issued double pack of Piece By Piece, which will contain a free 80 minute DVD of the European tour, including much of the concert, plus some great little backstage and on-the-road footage. More news to follow soon.

NEWS UPDATE– 23rd June 2006
Katie’s in Vegas tonight, right in the middle of the Il Divo support leg of her tour. To date it’s gone really well and she’s been reviewed well. The Orlando Sentinel (no less!) said:
“Opening act Katie Melua displayed a winsome personality with a wry dash of self-deprecation as she showcased her mellow, jazzy hits.
"Every songwriter has their sad love song," she introduced one number. "Well, this one's mine."
Although not well-known in the United States, Melua has achieved great success in Britain, and her 40-minute set showed why.
With a voice that can go from smokily seductive to plaintive to funky, all in a single song, she soared through hits such as "Nine Million Bicycles" and "The Closest Thing to Crazy”.
Audiences have all been completely, or almost completely in their seats at the start of her set, and the venues are biggish, - 4K to 10K. Supporting is a little different to playing headliners at similar houses in Europe (Katie has only ever done one support before this, a one-off for Joe Cocker in France last year) but she is enjoying the challenge and being well treated by the Il Divo team. In fact, in Tampa, Florida, after an awe-inspiring thunderstorm during soundcheck, (that threatened to wash the show out), our monitor desk wasn’t working and Il Divo’s guys were helpful beyond the call of duty, fixing it with only a minute to spare before she was to step on stage.
Katie took the band and crew out on a snorkeling trip in Boca Raton. She’s always very active and tries to make the most of spare time in all these interesting places rather than vegging in the hotel room.
The trip to the States began with a radio-tour and the album was released here two weeks ago, heralded by an appearance on the Today Show and the popular “Breakfast With The Arts” TV show. She has been working very hard. The album entered the top 200 at 108 (number 2 on the heat seeker chart). The Il Divo part of the tour ends on 3rd July in Vancouver, after which she starts the headline tour down the East Coast, preceded by the Montreal Jazz festival (5th July) and Toronto Mod Club (6th).
Meanwhile, back at Dramatico, everyone is working hard getting the DeLuxe edition ready for September release. It will contain a 90 minute DVD plus the album with added tracks. The DVD is being edited right now, and will contain interviews, backstage stuff and a lot of the superb footage of the European tour gigs shot by Mike Sergeant and a 12 camera OB unit.
Katie and Mike are both writing for album three – due next year, - and have collaborated on a couple of songs. They are also making a new single to be released in the late summer in the UK and the rest of Europe.
Shorter news updates will follow more regularly from now on, so check back soon.
